In 1847 Louis-Francois Cartier took over his master’s workshop and began creating watches and jewelry. By 1874 his son, Albert Cartier took over the business, but it was his three sons, Louis, Pierre and Jacques, that made the brand a global household name. It was in 1904 when Louis Cartier met Alberto Sandos-Dumont. Alberto was a pilot and complained about the inconvenience of using a pocket watch while flying. Cartier designed a flat wrist watch with a unique square bezel and named it the “Santos”. The Cartier watch business was born and “Santos” became the first wristwatch for men to become popular due to its functionality and comfort. Today, Cartier continues to deliver ultimate elegance and classic style that lasts through the generations.
